Fusion wear is in and when it comes to sarees a lot of Designers are experimenting with it to add a twist to it and make it desirable to the young generation. Gone are the days when young girls used to avoid draping the 9 yards. The present crop of designers have done a lot of experiments to make this form of garment accessible to the younger lot .The Saree Gown as the name suggests is a popular form of garment where the 9 yards is draped like a gown. This form of dressing is actually a huge craze among those who want clean cuts while wearing the attire and want to drape it without much hassle. The best part being, that this form garment is available either in a pre stitched variety or like a dress with fitted zippers. So the days are passed, when women had to spend hours getting the pleats right. The new variety has pleats already made and stitched all you need to do is wear the garment.
Just like everything around us that has changed and evolved with time, the famous Indian garment has already changed. Earlier, women used to associate draping a saree a true art. Today’s crop of women considers it a herculean task. This evolution amongst women has given birth to this ready to wear 9 yards. The 9 yards is pleated and stitched all that one needs to do it slip into it and place the Pallu over their shoulder.
Origin of this Trend
Contrary to common misconception, it is not a recent development. In fact the first saree gown was worn way back in the late 1980’s by the style icon Princess Diana. The most amazing fact is that it was not conceptualized or designed by an Indian designer. In fact, it was designed by well-known London designer called Catherine Walker. Princess Diana’s Fuchsia Gown inspired from a sari was well received by fashionistas but the style didn’t stay on. It is much later in 2011 when Paris Hilton wore the same thing it bounced back into the fashion forum.
However, we are not saying that in between this style of dressing was not indulged in. A lot of Bollywood divas seem to have tried this look on and off. The fact, that makes this look click are two things. Firstly, as compared to draping this ready to wear and slip on garment is any day a cake walk. In the era of instant noodle, people seem to prefer instant sari also. Secondly, the factor that makes this look click are the clean lines. If it is not draped properly, the garment might look clumsy and the whole look will fall apart, such is not the case with this instant gowns inspired from 9 yards. This garment is known to have clean cuts that holds on the look and makes it look even better.A lot of designers seem to be indulging in this look and making the most of this fusion wear.
